Old farmhouse, Oxfordshire

The clients had recently renovated an old farmhouse and needed the garden to be properly cultivated. The previous owners had farmed up to the house and had not had much in the way of formal garden.

An avenue of trees was planted, new hedges planted to increase privacy and separate certain areas off and two small copses of fruit and ornamental trees were planted. Formal lawn areas, meadows, flower borders and a kitchen garden were all introduced.

A large terrace was created, flanked by a series of raised brick beds planted with a mixture of perennials, allowing views through to the rest of the garden. The existing driveway was partially re-sited and a living sculpture garden was created from topiary yew columns, cubes and balls. This not only provided a fun area for the children to play in, but was carefully lit so that both day and night it provided a focal point.

This garden was created in collaboration with Katherine Godfrey Garden Design.
