A Garden In The Chilterns
The brief here was to redesign the driveway which was a long narrow, slightly winding path, with no area for turning around. The area immediately outside the house was little more than a parking area, the client wanted to create a proper, welcoming entrance to the house, divide the driveway from the house and create areas of planting.
A number of fruit trees were in the way of the newly widened turning circle, all bar one of these were transplanted elsewhere in the garden. The largest one of these, an ornamental cherry was retained and became the central feature of an oval turning circle and underplanted with grasses and bulbs.
A series of gravel beds were created to provide large areas of flowing planting, flanking a pathway leading to the front door and dividing the driveway from the house.
