A Garden On Many Levels

The site was a long and relatively narrow site, comprising a terrace running the entire length of the building with a high wall, a secondary raised terrace and a large, steeply sloping bank rising behind the whole property.

The clients wanted a pleasant area to sit immediately outside the property and also to have ‘green’ views from the key windows and French doors. A series of long planters were installed, filled with a mixture of perennials and evergreens and two lead effect parterre planters were created and filled with a mixture of herbs and perennials.

The garden is to be built in phases with phase 2 tacking the steep bank. A series of terraces are to be cut into the bank to create wide flat areas for further seating and planting, as well as a vegetable garden, thus rendering a steep, unusable area into a series of gardens. A water feature is to be installed on the lower terrace. Three sets of steps provide access up to the various levels. These, however have been offset to create a feeling of journeying through the space and opening up different vistas and areas as you walk through the garden.
